My students were the ones you mentioned in your blog when you wrote about the parade. I teach music to 6-7-8 graders at the local middle school here and we were honored to be part of this parade. The kids had a blast (they won't readily admit it though, being "too cool" to do so) thank you for your kind words---yes, it is my hope that the 'ukulele will also be a passport for my students when they start discovering the world around them. Also, we were the recipients of some of the tenor 'ukuleles that the big island guild project provided. my students felt so special that they were given such a gift. Please let me know when you are back in town and i would love to have you "wala 'au"---talk story---with my students; they find it amazing that there are people outside of hawaii that play the instrument.
